BMD CONNECTION
ISSUE 2 January 2011
Every New Year gives us precious opportunities to continue to proclaim the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. This year will give each one of us another opportunity to share with the approximately 2 billion people who are still unreached.
It has been very encouraging to visit many of our churches and hear what they are doing in respect to mission and evangelism.
I will share just a few stories with you in this issue.
UPINGTON: BANC
A team of 17 people from four different churches namely: Horison, Nancefield, Randfontein, and Bontheuvel went on a short term outreach to Upington from the 11 to the 16 December 2010. The mission was hosted by our missionary couple working in Upington, Petrus and Marianne Voster. They work closely with the IMB missionaries in the area, John and Liz Johnston. On Sunday morning the team split and ministered in each of the three churches, Rosedale, Pabalelo and Louisville. The afternoon was spent in an area called Kalksloot in Six Bridges. A village noted to have a high rate of HIV positive dwellers. An open air service was held in the middle of the village, and thereafter the team did house to house visitation, counseling, distributing the challenge newspaper, and other gospel literature. In the evening the team showed the Jesus Film, using the local primary school as the venue. The class room was packed to capacity. Many first time decisions for Jesus were made that night and subsequently. For the rest of the week a similar programme was followed. The classroom was soon too small for the evening meetings, and so was held in the quad of the school. On the Monday morning the team helped to put in a floor at the small Rosedale church structure. By the 16th almost every house in this village was visited and a list of forty names was left with Petrus and John to follow up. They both plan to establish a new church plant in this area. The mission was organized and led by the BMD.
ROUXVILLE: (BNA)
The missions developer visited and preached at this church on the 21 November 2010. It was heartening not only to see a church that was fully integrated, but also a vibrant and active church. The pastor and leaders have a vision to be mission minded. In December two of their members went to India on a short term outreach. Another of their members has been accepted as a career missionary with Operation Mobilisation to be serving in Madagascar. She needs some much
needed monthly financial support before she leaves to the field.
BUCCLEUCH: (BNA)
This church has embarked on an intensive evangelistic endeavor. Preparation for this begins in February 2011 for the outreach in March. Preparation will involve weeks of fasting and prayer, training and strategizing. This outreach is being done in partnership with Multi Ministries. The church also plans to have a church plant in Mid-Rand.
NORTHMEAD: (BNA)
This church has established a clinic that runs every Saturday. They provide the community in Benoni, with basic medical care with checks for Hypertension, Sugar Diabetes, Cholesterol, etc. The clinic is run by medical personell from the church. This church will also be a sending church for Sylvester Tshabalala, when the field that he feels called to is ready to receive him.
HILLCREST: (KZN)
This church has just commissioned one of their young men to serve as a missionary intern in Malawi. He will be working with Keith and Christeen Moller in the Yao field. He has commenced studying for his Bth with Kalk Bay Bible Institute by correspondence. Pray much for him as he prepares himself to becoming a fulltime missionary.
ZAMBIA
George was invited by the Fiwale Hill Bible College Faculty to come and help with the 2010 Graduation and also to conduct a seminar for the graduating class. The seminar dealt with Spiritual gifts and was well received. The graduation was held on the 5th December with eleven men and eight women graduating. Rev. Grant Schaaefer was the guest speaker. Just over 0ne thousand seven hundred people attended the service. We were also blessed with the highest offering ever collected at a graduation service.
George was also able to meet with the leaders of the Northern Baptist Association of Zambia and the church planters who are supported by Africa for Christ.
NORTH AFRICA
Our deported missionaries are still in need of prayer as they mourn the situation in their country of ministry. However, they have not lost their vision or calling in any way. Until the Lord opens another door Liesl Reynolds has been seconded to serve as short term teams co ordinator for Africa Inland Mission, and the Mullers are parents at a safe home for Aids orphans in Plumstead in Cape Town. The North Africa Consultation takes place in Malta at the end of January 2011 at which much prayer and discussion will be taking place for these countries. Please join in prayer during this time.
GLOBAL FOCUS
This strategy has been widely promoted in many of our churches: Grace Baptist in New Germany, Chatsworth Baptist in Durban, Bethel Baptist in Stanger and Scottburgh Baptist Church for the Kwa Zulu Baptist leaders. Dr Larry Reesor the founder and president of Global Focus was the speaker at each of these churches. More promotion was done at the BU Assembly held at Fish Hoek during September. Randfontein and Silvertown Baptist churches held Global Focus Seminars and are considering using this mission strategy. The Rosettenville Baptist Church is now in the fifth month of the mentoring process. They will soon have the Global Impact Celebration (GIC). One of the sister Baptist organizations known as the Baptist Association of South Africa (BASA) are hosting a Global Focus Seminar for their entire leadership approximately ninety people during January 2010 in Durban. The Centurion and Horison Baptist Churches are scheduled for a Seminar during the first few months of 2011.
LAUSANNE 111
This Global Conference was attended by about four thousand three hundred delegates from all over the world. All delegates were stirred afresh as to the churches responsibility to mission in these last days.
MISSIONARY THOUGHT:
“For too long have we depended upon the so called clergy and missionary to get the job done. It will never be accomplished until every member of the body of Christ is involved in GOING with the Gospel” Dr. G. ROY LOCKWOOD: Vice President World Literarture Crusade.
